Primary Function: The Sr. Claims Specialist is and experienced claims professional that is responsible for reporting client claims to the carrier / broker and acts as a liaison between clients and the insurance carriers’ claims departments. This person works with managers, producers, carriers and colleagues to ensure delivery of superior claims services. Typically reports to the department supervisor or manager and is assigned to large and/or complex clients.

Duties:

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Reports claims to appropriate carriers / brokers and maintains accurate and up-to-date claim data in the agency management system in accordance with agency workflows. Investigates coverage questions and acts as a liaison between all parties to resolve claim-related issues.

  • Communicates escalated claims issues, legal notifications, and high reserve /payment information to the department manager, producer/account manager

  • Provides exceptional claims services including correspondence, communication and meetings with clients, adjusters, producers and insurance carriers

  • Develops strong positive client relationships by being the point of contact for assigned clients, maintaining open lines of communication, and conducts client-facing meetings as needed

  • Performs backup support as requested

  • Performs administrative functions including mail and email processing and updating carrier claim reporting contacts in Outlook and adjuster contacts in the agency management system

  • Interacts with others effectively and professionally by utilizing excellent communications skills, cooperating purposefully, and providing information and guidance to achieve the agency’s goals

  • Supports and complies with agency guidelines, workflows, and company policies and procedures

  • Serves as first responder during local or regional catastrophic events

  • May provide guidance to less experienced Claims Specialists

  • Available to process after-hours emergency claim reporting calls

  • Additional responsibilities and projects as assigned

  • Overtime work as required

Education/Designations

  • College degree preferred, High School diploma or equivalent required

  • Appropriate and active Property & Casualty license required

    Work Experience

  • Typically has up to 4+ years of P&C claims handling experience.

  • Solid understanding of claims processes, knowledge of insurance products, policy line coverage, and industry operations.

    Technical Requirements

  • Experience and proficiency using Outlook, Word, Excel

  • Ability to effectively utilize the Internet

  • Ability to understand financial information and perform mathematical methods of calculation
